Choose Steer if

  • You want a voice assistant to pick up overflow and after-hours calls.
  • Your shop software is one of the 40+ Steer connects to, and you want reminders and deferred work pulled from it automatically.
  • You want a daily call list of declined work, open quotes and abandoned bookings for your advisors.
  • Someone at the counter has time to run campaigns and work the inbox.

Choose Sapt if

  • Missed calls are where you lose jobs and you want each caller texted and booked.
  • You want your website built for you from your Google listing, not a template to fill in.
  • You want one flat price instead of a plan plus add-ons.
  • You want to be the only shop in your area we work with.

Steer, SteerCRM, Mechanic Advisor and AutoOps

They are one company. Steer’s about page says Mechanic Advisor was founded in 2006 as a directory for drivers, rebranded as Steer in 2022, and “joined forces” with AutoOps, an online scheduling tool, in 2024. AutoOps’ terms open with “We are Mechanic Advisor LLC, doing business as AutoOps and Steer.”

steercrm.com now redirects to steer.io, and the Steer app still runs at app.steercrm.com. AutoOps keeps its own site at autoops.com, and Steer sells it inside its plans. Steer has also announced it is joining forces with Call Inbound, a shop phone provider, and moving Call Inbound customers to Steer Voice.

What Steer includes

Steer calls itself “The Front of House Solution for Auto Shops.” Per its pricing page: Booking Tool has online booking, Reserve with Google, a deferred-work upsell and shop software sync. Essentials adds email and text campaigns, service reminders, two-way messaging, reviews and abandoned-booking follow-up. Ultimate adds CallerID+, call intelligence, the Opportunity Hub, AI after-hours replies, the Digital Glovebox and AutoOps Pro.

Steer has added phones. Call Assistants “answer overflow and after-hours calls, book appointments, gather important details,” and can text booking and review links. Steer Voice is a full phone system with call coaching and outcome tracking. Both are marked new on Steer’s site, and neither has a price on the pricing page.

Websites are an add-on. On Steer’s websites page you pick a template, add your logo, colors, hours and services, let AI write the copy, then publish. AutoOps notes that “Websites are only available with an AutoOps subscription.”

What it costs

Steer lists $189, $479 and $629 a month. Add-ons are AutoOps Pro at $80 a month per location (AutoOps Voice, Website Chat and Intelligent Calendar, included in Ultimate) and a website at $100 a month per location. Users are unlimited, and no setup fee is listed.

Put together the pieces closest to Sapt (a website, review requests, two-way texting and AutoOps Voice) and it comes to $479 + $100 + $80 = $659 a month on Essentials, or $629 + $100 = $729 a month on Ultimate. That is our arithmetic from Steer’s published prices. Call Assistants and Steer Voice aren’t priced on the page.

Steer bills monthly. Its FAQ says that if you cancel, “your subscription will remain active for 30 days following your next billing date,” with no prorated refunds. Its terms, last updated September 4, 2026, ask for written notice at least 30 days ahead, renew each subscription automatically for the same length, and say annual plans can’t be cancelled for convenience mid-term. “No refunds will be available for fees the Customer has paid.”

Two more things in the terms. They count AutoOps website “hosting, design, and maintenance” as part of the services and say the agreement “does not convey to the Customer any rights of ownership in or related to the Services.” They don’t mention domains. And when the agreement ends, your right to access your customer data “immediately ceases.”

Sapt is $297 a month flat: no setup fee, no contract, and we refund your payment if it isn’t worth it to you in the first 30 days. Ad spend is separate.

Where Sapt is different

Missed calls. Sapt gives you a number for your Google listing and website that rings your shop first. If nobody picks up, the caller gets a text from your shop right away. With AutoOps Voice, callers “press a number on their phone’s keypad to be automatically sent a link to schedule an appointment online.” See how missed-call text-back works.

Someone answers by text. Sapt’s AI front desk answers the customer’s questions by text and offers real openings. With a supported calendar connected it books the accepted time, and you get a text with the details. Questions it can’t answer come to you. Steer covers this by voice with Call Assistants, and on Ultimate its AI replies to messages after hours.

Done for you. We build your website from your Google listing (hours, services, photos and reviews) on your own domain. We check and fix your listing’s hours, services, photos and phone, and each month you get a report of where you show up on Google Maps. We found no listing upkeep or rank report in Steer’s public pages. See the Google Business Profile guide.

One price, one shop per area. $297 a month covers the website, the texting and the listing work. And we don’t take on the shop down the street. We found no area exclusivity in Steer’s public pages.

Where Steer is stronger

It reads your shop software. Steer says it “integrates with 40+ different shop management systems,” and its integrations page lists Tekmetric, Shopmonkey, Shop-Ware, Mitchell 1, Protractor, RO Writer and NAPA TRACS among others. Service reminders pull past recommendations from that data, and the Opportunity Hub builds a daily call list from declined work, open quotes and abandoned bookings. Sapt’s declined-work texts work from an export.

Voice. Call Assistants pick up overflow and after-hours calls and can book, and Steer Voice is a full phone system. Sapt’s front desk answers by text, not voice.

Booking everywhere. Online booking and a Google “Book Online” button come with every plan, with live availability pushed into your shop software. Users are unlimited, and there is an Enterprise plan for multi-location groups.

Your shop software

Steer connects to more shop software than Sapt does today. If yours is on its list, that is a real reason to look at Steer.

Sapt keeps your shop software. Shopmonkey appointment booking is live. Tekmetric, Torque360 and ARI integrations are in progress, and until they’re live the assistant takes the request and your advisor confirms the time. We agree that handoff with you first, and our team handles setup and testing. See the Shopmonkey guide and the software integration guide.

Some shops will want both: Steer for reminders and deferred work from the shop system, Sapt for missed calls, the website and the Google listing. If you do that, decide which system sends review requests so customers don’t get two.

Questions shop owners ask

Steer’s pricing page lists Booking Tool at $189 a month, Essentials at $479 and Ultimate at $629, as of October 25, 2026. AutoOps Pro is $80 a month per location (included in Ultimate) and a website is $100 a month per location. Enterprise is custom.

They are one company. Steer and AutoOps joined forces in 2024, and AutoOps’ terms name the company as Mechanic Advisor LLC, doing business as AutoOps and Steer. Steer’s terms describe AutoOps as its booking tool and website service.

Yes. steercrm.com redirects to steer.io, and the Steer app still runs at app.steercrm.com. Steer was called Mechanic Advisor until it rebranded in 2022.

Steer bills monthly and lists no term on its pricing page. If you cancel, the subscription stays active for 30 days after your next billing date, with no prorated refunds. Its terms also allow annual plans, which can’t be cancelled for convenience mid-term.

AutoOps Voice, part of the $80 AutoOps Pro add-on and of Ultimate, lets callers press a key to get a booking link by text. Steer’s Call Assistants answer overflow and after-hours calls by voice. Sapt texts every missed caller right away and answers by text.

Steer doesn’t list a plan named AutoOps. Its pricing page has the Booking Tool at $189 a month, AutoOps Pro at $80 a month per location and websites at $100 a month per location. Steer’s terms call its booking tool and website service AutoOps.
